Do you Have Time to Volunteer?

Some of our youth volunteers have found that it is very difficult to serve 25 to 50 hours between December and May. Life can be very busy at times! Take a look at this time grid for a typical week for one of our volunteers. We have filled in the hours spent going to and from and at school. Everyone spends time eating dinner, doing homework or household chores, chatting with friends on the telephone or internet, going out with friends, playing games, watching tv, resting. Then there may be other activities that fill your time (music lessons, sports, religion class, etc). How do you fill the empty blocks? Try making your own time grid to see how you spend your time.

Do you have enough free blocks left over to participate in The Incredible Exchange? To volunteer 50 hours, you would need 2 to 3 empty blocks each week to do your volunteer work. Also, these blocks of time will have to be when volunteers are needed. Most sites would like their volunteers to be available right after school or on the weekend. You may have to rearrange your schedule to be available at that time.
